Where heat dissipation at low bond line thicknesses is required in automotive electronic applications, Momentive offers an excellent material solution to use
LEVERKUSEN, Untereisesheim — march 1st, 2010
Thermal management is becoming increasingly important for automotive electronics as under-the-hood temperatures continue to rise and the amount of electronics is growing. Hybrid cars are particularly affected. Engineers are looking for cost competitive thermal management solutions that can remove the heat from increasingly sensitive electronic components. Thermal greases are often considered but due to concerns about “bleed-out” and long term reliability, engineers may end up selecting higher cost options. Momentive Performance Materials recently introduced SilCool TIG 210 BX, a thermally conductive grease that provides “low bleed” and low thermal resistance for applications where thin bond lines are required. In addition to thermal conductivity (2.1 W/mK), this material offers stable performance, which is typically required for automotive applications, such as an engine control unit. The images (MPMPR025a) show the “low bleed” performance and the thermal shock stability of a 45° mounted test specimen.
In addition to reliability and application performance, SilCool TIG 210 BX thermally conductive grease offers excellent processability enabling thinner bond lines which allows for minimum thermal resistance. With these attributes, SilCool TIG 210BX is an excellent product to consider for many challenging automotive electronics applications.
Momentive Performance Materials offers a broad range of silicone products for transportation applications, including a wide choice of leading-edge thermal management grades, fast cure adhesives, and low modulus encapsulants.
